Ogata Gekko
Ogata Gekko(1859-1920) Essentially self-trained, Gekko drew from various sources to create a personal style in which elements of ukiyo-e and certain features of the Shijo School are most evident. He was a prolific painter, print designer and illustrator, and early in his career even made designs for lacquer and cloisonne’. His prints often have the soft, atmospheric quality of paintings. He was one of the most popular designers of prints illustrating the Sino-Japanese War.
