Throughout his life Goyo was plagued by bouts of ill health, and in February 1921, Weakened by a middle-ear infection, he contracted meningitis. On February 26 his brothers Mitsugu and Hanjiro posted a notice in the newspaper announcing the death of their brother.

Goyo left behind a number of unfinished works, including preparatory drawings and key-block proofs. From around 1949 - 1953, his nephew the painter Hashiguchi Yasuo (1903 - 1973) oversaw the production of many of these, among them "At a Hot Springs Inn".
